For those who report successful results from the operation and have benefited from an improved quality of life and psychological well-being and the best possible outcome, that is wonderful. Bravo to you all.
But do not show your scorn toward the regretters by making hurtful comments. Even after following all the proper standards, some remain depressed. Far too many transgenders commit suicide.
I continue to get letters from regretters. I feel they need someone like me who will provide a safe place where they can express the regret they have.
Some of the regret stems from the experiencing the negative consequences of changing genders such as lost relationships, broken families and the inability to return to a career and/or maintain the same high level of income they once enjoyed. They just do not feel the surgical change improved their life, in fact they say it got much worse.
While the stories of success have been told on every TV network talk show for as long as I can remember, for the ones who live to regret it, only silence. They remain depressed or commit suicide. So yes, I have focused my messages on the topics of regret and suicide because the regretters and their stories should not be tucked away as if they do not exist.
So, if you think I have no heart for the individuals who enjoy success from their gender change, you would be wrong.
What is truly heartless is ignoring the ones who remain hurting so badly they regret every day of their life. Regretters are depressed and some, sadly, commit suicide. So, is it bad for me to care more for the regretters who are hurting and ignored than the gender changers who enjoy success?
Just wondering
